Summer Nights

A lot can be said about living in North Dakota. Much of it not very promising. We have summer for three months and winter most of the year with a couple weeks of fall and spring mixed in. For all that we put up with for weather and remoteness, life here in the summer is a slice of heaven.

I am sitting under my gazebo at 9:30 pm. The sun is beginning to cast an orange glow to the west. What a wonderful evening. Stella is watching me from the yard debating whether to sprawl out on the grass or take chase after our farm cat. Generally, resting wins that debate in her head. She has short spurts of energy followed by several hours of sleep. The life of a basset is far from strenuous.

Take time to enjoy these evenings as the wheat begins to turn tawny and the prairie turns from deep green to washed out tones of yellow and brown. This time of year is delightful.

When the sun sets on the prairie, you are left with nothing but stars.
