Girl Crush

I may be a newbie at writing blogs, but I certainly have been following blogs for years. I enjoy what is written in most of the blogs I read, but a lot of the time I really focus on how the blogger writes. I am trying to learn how to write concisely while still painting a picture of what is happening in my head. I want it to be interesting and engaging, funny and whimsical.

There are several bloggers that I enjoy, but I have to admit I have a girl crush. She does not know I exist. She is a blogger and a ranch wife just like me. And Her name is Ree Drummond. She is one of my favorite bloggers. I have several of her books. She is truly first class. Her blogs are posted on www.thepioneerwoman.com.

We have so much in common EXCEPT she has a TV show, 4 cookbooks, 4 children's books, kitchen dinnerware line, cameos on QVC, a lodge and probably more money than I will see in my lifetime. But we do both live on a cattle ranch and we both have a dear affection for basset hounds. That in itself should prove to be reason enough for a life-long friendship. Am I wrong here?

                                          My basset hound - Stella

Her blog is really a highlight of her life including her family, love of cooking, and life on an Oklahoma cattle ranch. My biggest admiration is how she has eloquently educated hundreds of people on realistic animal based food production. In an easy flowing narrative, she highlights how her family's day-to-day work on the ranch really makes a difference. She does not apologize for producing or cooking meat. I am sure she must get some hate mail, but it is hard not to love her. She is authentic and genuine.

I hope that in some small way, I can highlight the joys, love and laughter of living on the plains. A place that few people call home and even fewer really understand. There is a disconnect from the farm to the plate. The average citizen is too far removed from food production to even begin to understand our point of view or our practices.

My hope is that you follow Ree's blog and mine too for that matter. I hope you connect with me even if it is to tell me I am wrong or misinformed. I love rural life. I love North Dakota. And I hope you do too.
